The building of the Old Kings Head Hotel is thought to have begun around 1610 when the Dean and Chapter of York owned the land around the Chapel of Broughton and is inextricably linked to the proclamation of the town’s Charter, a copy of which can be found hanging in the bar.
In the intervening four centuries the Old Kings Head has provided a continuous service of rest and refreshment to the public.
Passionate About Ale
We’ve always a great range and quality of drinks available from the bar, and our efforts to promote the enjoyment of good beers has been recognised in the award of the Cask Marque - acknowledging of the importance we place on serving the best beer, at its best, all the time.
Along with some of the country’s favourite brews from the likes of Timothy Taylor’s, Deuchars, and Boddingtons we serve beers from local Cumbrian breweries including: Beckstones, Hawkshead, Hesket Newmarket and Jennings, beers from the heart of Lakeland which are developing a national following.
The Old Kings Head Hotel is one of the venues in the annual beer festival in Broughton-in-Furness, at which dozens of ales, stouts, porters and largers are available over a weekend’s celebration of and appreciation for the products of some of the countries best brewers.
“If you are travelling through southern Lakeland then the Old Kings Head is the place to call in” - beerguide.co.uk
In addition to our passion for serving the perfect pint of ale we stock largers and bottled beers from across the globe and a wide variety of minerals, soft drinks and fruit juices.

Within our selection of wines we ensure there’s something for everyone. You’ll find our wine cellar contains classics from the Old World along side some of the best wines from the New World. Available by the glass or by the bottle, we want you to drink and enjoy them, and we make sure that they’re priced so you can.
